Profiting from a Chinese-sourced Amazon product

The full cost stack

A profitable Amazon FBA product starts long before the sale. You pay the factory, ship the goods to the US, clear customs with duties and tariffs, and then pay Amazon to store, pick, pack and ship each unit — plus referral and advertising fees. Forgetting any one of these is the most common reason a “cheap” import loses money.

How the profit is calculated

  1. Start with landed cost: product + origin + freight + insurance + duties + tariffs + fees.
  2. Add Amazon referral fee (a percentage of revenue).
  3. Add FBA fulfillment and storage (per-unit estimates × quantity).
  4. Add advertising (PPC) as a percentage of revenue, plus any other costs.
  5. Profit = revenue − (landed cost + all of the above).

Why per-unit estimates matter

FBA fulfillment and storage fees depend on a product’s size and weight tier, and they change over time. This calculator asks you to enter an estimate per unit so the math is transparent. Check Amazon’s current FBA fee schedule for your product’s dimensions and weight before relying on a number for pricing. We do not present any fee as current or authoritative.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Amazon fees in this calculator live?
No. They are editable estimates. Enter the figures from your Amazon seller account or the current FBA fee schedule.
What is contribution profit?
It is revenue minus all the variable costs modelled here. It is an estimate for planning, not a guarantee of accounting profit, which may include additional fixed costs.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. All calculations run in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
